Background:
The di-methyl ether (DME) industry is developing rapidly in China in recent years. By 2006, there are over 30 producers with total capacities around 500,000 ton per year, and it is expected to be over 1 million ton per year by the end of 2007.
With the boom of coal chemical industry, the coal-based methanol produced in middle and west China need to offtake the mega-methanol output. DME, the derivative of methanol is showing its advantages. DME is cost-competitive compared with LPG when it is used as city gas. DME can also be used as transportation fuel ¨C DME fueled buses are demonstrated in Shanghai currently and will be promoted in China in the future.
Domestic investors, such as Jiutai Energy, XinAo Group, Shanghai Huayi, Sinopec, China National Coal Group, Shanxi Lanhua Sci-Tech, Lutianhua and etc are building the DME projects respectively.
In order to help investors reduce the investment risks and create a business platform for all players in DME industry. Chemsino Intelligence, associated with Shanghai Petroleum Society and National Alcohol/Ether Fuel Committee, will hold 2007 China DME Production, Application and Technology Conference in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, where is the most import DME production base in China, to share views on government policies, projects, investments, process, and the updates in the DME market.
